To Trust or Not to Trust

To Trust or Not to Trust?

How can each of us find more peace – personally, socially, globally and/or spiritually?

I believe we all find more peace when we are in direct alignment with the universal forces at work. For example for all of us in the Northern Hemisphere, fall is approaching we know three months after that winter will come…then spring…then summer. Nature’s deep knowing prepares for each season…we see birds migrating for the winter and the blossoming of flowers and plants in the spring with the vernal equinox. We have grown accustom to the expectation that nature will just do its thing. Taking the time to actually listen to the unique melody of a particular bird when it is singing and to be fully present to the beauty of a flower in bloom makes one feel the connection to the source of all that is…and activates our ability to be more directly aligned with the universal forces at work…to not have to push for change to happen but just to allow it to flow because there is a deep trust in the universal intelligences ability to create peace.

We become anxious when we begin to live out of the flow…when our trust begins to fade…when we become unconscious of human responsibility to honor the web of life and when our sense of respect and reverence for all that is begins to waiver.

As we are all aware the seasons and our ecosystems are being knocked off balance by climate change….and this is upsetting the delicate balance between nature, plants and animals. In part, as we know, this is a result of the lack of respect and reverence by humans for nature…a lack of consciousness of our human responsibility. This is affecting planetary peace. Flash flooding, hurricanes, bees dying off, soil erosion, arctic ice melting, climate change is having serious implications for the sustainability of all life on the planet.

Why do we have such a difficult time living in the flow? What prevents us from trusting a universe that has given us seasons that work in perfect order when we live in balance with nature? What will wake us up to our human responsibility?

I think we can start with cultivating our spiritual interconnection with the universe. As one of my favorite spiritual friends Lama Gangchen from Tibet always says “Inner Peace is the Most Solid Foundation for World Peace.” How do we achieve inner peace so we can create a solid foundation for world peace? A good start is to begin to contemplate on how we are interconnected with all that is, all that was and all that ever will be…how everything we do, say and feel affects the subtle energies of the universe. I once took an Ageless Wisdom class and one assignment was to only think of positive thoughts for one day and the following day only think of negative thoughts. I happily began my positive thoughts assignment and was amazed how friendly and receptive the world was. Everyone seemed to be smiling and even the colors around me seem much more vibrant. I can only compare it to the feeling of being in love. The next day I began my assignment of negative thoughts. I found this a bit more challenging but focused on my assignment thinking of negative thoughts like “well this is not going to happen or I am going to have a bad day” and voila as I opened the refrigerator to get some orange juice some unknown force made my pickle jar smash on the floor! I was almost scared to continue my assignment but did. As I was walking out of the house I tried to think of my negative thoughts and tripped on a step that I always told myself I would trip on one day because it was in need of repair! That was enough for me! I got the teaching. I also realized how powerful my thoughts actually were so begin to try to keep them in check on a daily basis. If I could make a pickle jar smash on the floor I knew that I could not only contribute to chaos but also to creating peace… not only within myself but also in the world. So I begin to meditate on a more regular basis to align myself with source. This connection increased my trust in divine intelligence which we are all part of. Soon this connection opened up channels to receive guidance usually in the form of spiritual assignments. These assignments sometimes required of me to truly trust…some required me to leave steady well paying jobs to work without pay for something higher for the common good, others required me to move overseas but the more I felt trust in the universe the easier it was to feel at peace with what I was being called to do.

Thank you, Diane, for this lovely article. I know what you mean about meditating on a regular basis to become more connected with the divine intelligence and be guided by it. I also notice how things seem to naturally fall into place...
Thanks,
M:)
