We who make money for a living sell ourselves every day, whyfore is a person physically making money a "cimre".

That can only be A Biblically based judgement: the separation of church and state!

Freedom to (or not legalistically) religion.

Regulate right . . .

Peace

And your point is......?

A little Seattle history:

Prostitution was legal here in the late 1800's and early 1900s. The original Seattle School System in fact, received more money from the combination of taxes on prostitution, plus huge donations from one of the city's wealthiest prostitutes (who ran a very fancy operation in what is now part of the Underground just blocks away from City hall, where a lot of her clients happened to hold political office).

You usually don't think of it: prostitute as prominent citizen, willing a fortune to invest in educating the future generations.

Not only that, but a good chunk of the city's money to fund the first paved street system in Seattle came from - you guessed it - taxes on ladies' services for men.

Given the fact that people don't want property taxes raised, and that they don't want to pay tolls on our floating bridges and such, and the general public will always vote to keep the tax burden down, I say why not let the guys finance it with tax money from their payments to the ladies?

It has already been proven to be a very stable source of income for the city.

Instead of wasting millions of dollars fighting a fruitless, never-ending battle, why not make millions of dollars off it by legalizing and regulating it?

It's pretty much on the same level as the marijuana argument IMHO.

It's a losing battle for the same reason that alcohol prohibition was a losing battle in the 1920s. And as in the case of alcohol prohibition, making it illegal spawned a huge criminal industry, simply making it more dangerous for everybody.

As for the moral outrage - spare me. The people who complain the loudest are usually the ones who end up getting busted in public bathrooms with young boys.

I think I'll go back to Max's thread.

Nothing against you, Saira!

I have to laugh...I was just muttering to myself about what a bad apple SF is, and here is more proof!

Yo, prostitution and pot are illegal? No way. Since when?
Well then, there must be a lot more money keeping it illegal than if it were legal. My guess is that people will smoke pot and pay for sex whether they are illegal or not.

Yo, laws or the legislation of someone's morals don't keep people from doing things.

derek

I don't know how gambling, drinking, smoking and prostitution came pretty much under the same category in this article... atleast spare drinking and smoking :P

well, I think there are pros and cons here... if it becomes legal, atleast they'll have to pay taxes and as the article states about saving money for the state...

But the problem is when prostitution is forced upon... and that happens. There are stories of young girls being kidnapped and forced into brothels all over the world. If it becomes legal, those people, have no fear.
