How can we help individuals faced with financial insecurity in these uncertain times?

Mallika Chopra - October 07, 2008

A report that a man in Southern California shot his 3 kids, wife, mother in law and himself today was a shock. Apparently, he was financially distraught and had been jobless for months, and had written about his choices in facing this challenge. His psychosis resulted in killing his entire family as perhaps the most honorable escape. Personally, this story shook me given that I could relate culturally to the man - Karthik Rajaram - and his Indian family: married with 3 children, one son a Fulbright Scholar at UCLA. He had an MBA and had worked for well known firms.

This report follows last weeks about a 90 year old woman who shot herself when threatened to be thrown out of her foreclosed home. It comes at the end of a day where world markets continued to tumble, and the Dow Jones closed at below 10,000.

The reality, I fear, is that we are at the beginning of a financial correction which is going to affect the livelihoods and lives of people around the world. It is a time of real challenges, real adjustments, real fear.

I said a few weeks ago that: My Intent is to understand the ramifications of the macro economic realities, and support those who are facing difficulties in these uncertain times. As I read the headlines throughout the day, and hear more and more stories - some personal and some in the news - I really do feel that we, as communities and as individuals, need to support each other in whatever way we can.

I ask you, how can we help individuals faced with financial insecurity in these uncertain times?

Within my own extended family, opening up my home and my checkbook and praying to God that the economy improves before I personally run out of resources to share.
Within my community, volunteering and donating.

Don't worry! The "free"-market will take care of everything . . .

NOT!

While McCain rally supporters of Christiandom shout KILL HIM--where HIM is Barack Obama--to the dismay of Obama's secret service detail and the severe disappointment of those who detest the One Party State in favor of an adult, mature pluralistic debate that was, at one time, the hallmark of our onetime humble nation, Sarah Palen goes on winking as she speaks, delivering lethal doses of poison into the public conversation, inciting barely disguised race hate.

The book of Proverbs portrays "winking" as a sign of malicious dishonesty: "He who winks the eye causes treachery, And a babbling fool will be ruined."

Another: "Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at?"

Another: "Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause."

So WHY all the winking? And to whom?

I will pray for these people who are hungry and tired beyond hope, because I'm absolutly SURE that Palin is not winking at them.

I will ask that they will be seated at the head of the table, that they will receive the highest blessing of Christ our Savior in this lifetime and the next. That they will be given their daily bread and hourly hope. And by bread, I mean BREAD.

It is their rightful inheritance in the world Jesus sought to manifest...Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done.

As I always say, "While scoundrels abound, Truth abides."

As I contemplate today's Hate Rally, my attention is drawn to The Bible where it says, "By their fruits ye shall know them."

I wish I didn't.

Really.

Dear Mallika,

I will start by trying to help you see through your fear. You say that you -fear- that this is the beginning of a financial correction. You say that you fear that this is a time of -real- fear.

Well... I hear the calm voice behind the psychosis, telling us what fear is made of and were it comes from, telling us about the reality of spiritual solutions and telling us that what is happening is our way to a much better world.

I write down what this voice says. If you want to see through your fear and help others do it too, maybe these blogs on Intent will help you. This is what I do to help individuals faced with financial insecurity.

Mallika,

"...I really do feel that we, as communities and as individuals, need to support each other in whatever way we can."

Thanks. We are on the same wavelength here.

Dear Mallika,

You could help one to establish awareness regarding the new systems and truth based architecture. I have been clear about my intentions which were to destroy the world's illusions and the things built upon them would collapse. It has happened as exactly as I said it would, and one might suspect that I am correct in the remedy as well.

The flaws and the solution I have well articulated on http://coinage.me. {click my name]

You say "My Intent is to understand the ramifications of the macro economic realities, and support those who are facing difficulties in these uncertain times."

Then perhaps one could study the material and help to convey it to others, it contains deep insight and demonstrates the needed shift in consciousness.

The only thing that keeps the world from salvation is it's collective ego.

One can manifest miracles but one must be invited to do so, and as of yet there has been no invitation.

THERE IS NO RATIONAL REASON FOR ANY ECONOMIC SLOW DOWN

This idea of deep recession or depression is contrived, bogus and may simply be a device to initiate huge transfers of tangible wealth to a few. It is BS being sold to everyone by the system operators. What we are really seeing is a classic example of massive legal sanctioned embezzlement taking advantage of the ignorance of the economic system participants.

The essential economy does not disappear over night. The consumers of energy, food, shelter, transportation, and tools still have their needs and wants, and the producers still exist to provide fulfillment. What has happened is the system to account for the exchange of value between the producers and consumers has been totally corrupted and mismanaged.

The producers and consumers need to adopt a new system that they own and control collectively and cast the other aside rendering the billions or millions a few have accumulated of null value in the present economy. It is also important to note that in a balanced and well designed system we all play both the role of consumer and producer.

One of the issues in the current system is there is no means for everyone to be a producer.

One cannot consume if they cannot produce which means they are sentenced to death, for we have created an unnatural system.

This planet was a paradise, and all that was needed was provided for free, one simply needed to put forth a little effort to get food or build a shelter and enjoy the play ground.

Management has taken away, by brute force, the natural ability to gather food and build a shelter leaving people no choice but to participate in a system designed by a few to their benefit, and the detriment of the many.

The Producers will rise to be King not the thieves, hoarders and coveters of ill gotten wealth and the controllers of the symbol used for commerce, for it is they the producers that will produce the real value tomorrow and a new system will ensure a balanced exchange.

The value of the world’s current currency is based on a created false perception, an illusion that reality has shattered. If the currency systems were actually based on real math and logic they could work but they are not. The summary data to properly manage such a system does not exist. The information architecture to provide the summary data does not exist.

These are the first steps to correction.

You got it Richard!

Peace

I think all we can do is to offer what we can to those around us. There is nothing worse than becoming another who needs help as well, but at the same time for those of us who can (regardless of how small the contribution), we should try.

In college I started an alternative spring break program on campus and in that first year we raised over 30K in less than five months to go to New Orleans to help rebuild- our fundraising concept?

Each of the 45 members needed to raise $600- that would give $27K. Each of those 45 members were, in-turn, challenged to find 60 others who would donate $10 to help them go on the trip. By having everyone contribute just a little, a huge difference was made.

Clearly there isn't a magic money tree or finance genie- but just a little from everyone and we all might pull through this together okay :)
