I take a vow

Gayatri Jayaraman - November 10, 2008

This is my personal vow of non-violence to support Deepak's Vow:
To not place heat in words, where I may place light
To not stumble into loudness, where there may be stillness
To not seek to be heard first, where I may be heard clearest
To not draw upon anger, where I may draw upon compassion
To not fashion into sharpness, what I may fashion into gentleness
To not measure what I get, where I may measure what I become
To not look for revenge, where I may seek justice
To not fall into argument, where I may clarify by debate
To not think in terms of punishment, where I may think in terms of correction
To not attack, where I may defend

To bring together, where it is simpler to take away
To stop short, where it is easiest to dig in the knife
To search for the excuse for peace where there is ample excuse for violence
To seek forgiveness where it is easier to cast blame
To bite my tongue when the retort on the tip of it is priceless
To never raise a hand or a voice on a child and to never allow it around me
To let go what you can easily make an issue of in the interest of peace
To actively speak up to stop acts of non-violence towards around me
To speak softly
To harm no one directly or indirectly in my personal pursuits

If anyone in India would like to join in, please do do blog your intent as per Deepak's post, or you can also mail me at spotjogging@gmail.com and I'll be happy to sign you up on my post too. I have forwarded the vow to a number of friends, who are taking some time to think about the commitment, and will I'm hoping sign up shortly. G

Very poetic...like soothing waves washing over old patterns and raw wounds. Like a song of Psalms. Are we writing a new language into our land? We the people of global grassroots?

Trish~~

What is the need of a vow?
Are you driven by intent to set your Karma right?

Possibly, you may live a life on second hand thoughts ( of Deepak here).

Let the Karma flow through your experience of life and the human inside you guide your actions. In case violence really flows through you, incremental plus or minus by vows will not make any difference

Words have power. To formulate positive ones is beneficial. Words can elect a president. Words of the Beatles can make young girls faint. Solicitous words to God cannot go anywhere but into His concsiouness. Where else?

Who will judge what is 'harm' and when?

I'm sorry, you've just done my head in, along with Typepad!
