The Obama Presidency: How do you view the Global Transformative Effects?

DK Matai - November 05, 2008

Dear Friends, last night democrat Barack Obama was elected the 44th US President, winning a historic election. "Even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime - two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century," said Obama during his first speech as the president.

It would be useful to have your considered input in regard to the following: "The Obama Presidency: How do you view the global transformative effects?"

We welcome your thoughts, observations and views. Thank you.

With love and warm wishes to you and family

Hi DK,

I believe one of the most important things to achieve global transformative effects is the ability of a person to listen.

Obama said it himself in his speech: 'I will listen especially to people who will not agree with me'.

That is the true spirit of a constructive community worker:

- to be able to listen
- to be able to replace oneself into the train of thought of the other
- to be able in this way to bring people together without fear and to build bridges indeed towards agreement.

Remember after the 9 -- 11 bombings, when the United States had the heart and sympathy of many many other nations and those nations were expecting a mature, noble, well-considered, and balanced response from us....and in many ways, we as a nation BLEW it ....??

well, it seems to me that we are now again in just such a hope-laden and beautiful position. The world is ever-faithfully looking to the United States to provide the enlightened co-leadership that the good-heartedness of our U.S. peoples desires to provide in a world full of all peoples, indisputably equal to each other in every way as brothers and sisters on the planet, and the national actions the world needs from our peoples as responsible and caring and fully human and loving citizens of one of the larger, more powerful nation-states on the planet with so much heart to do good and so many resources with which to do it. We have another chance not to disappoint the peoples of other nations, another chance to show our love and fairness, another chance to share and to listen to the outreach of countless others from other lands who desire that our shrinking planet be a place of peace and compassion and plenty.

The American people's clear but ignored anti-war mandate of two years ago as expressed during the mid-term elections was never acted upon by the powers that be who are paid to enact the people's will. This clear but ignored anti-war mandate IS FINALLY BEING IMPLEMENTED (STOP THE WAR, be good world citizens, contemplate the Causes of 9 -- 11, be measured in our responses to other nations, understand that the dramatic and explosive acts of a few do not represent the attitudes of every one of their fellow countrymen and countrywomen, look at the lessons and the possible reasons behind such anger of those who did act explosively, consider our own national responsibilities to other nations, our obligation to be kind and fair and honest and earth-citizens> This is the heart of most people in the United Staes. We come from everywhere, our nation is a melting pot of everyrace, every ethnic type, every religion, every personality type. We are a microcosm of the larger world. By and large, Americans love each other, and we want to cherish and love the lands that our fellow Americans came from originally. Love is simple. Love works. Nothing else really does. We need a simple, effective solution because it has become too easy to blow each other to bits. Governments telling their young men and woman to go and murder the young men and women of other countries, similarly cgharged. The young men and women of all the countries of the world now communicate very warmly and lovingly with each other on the Internet,m in chat rooms, on blogs. Let's short-circuit the hatemongers and the hate-sellers.

And while I am at it, please, United States, the culture we need to export to other countries for their purchase, if they so desire, is not gory trashy ugly murder-mayhem-monsters brutality. Why are we teachibg people that the crap in B-Movies and bloody video games is decent stuff on which to nurture tender young minds in the far corners of our green and beautiful planet?

Dear DK,

I don’t know if you recall me mentioning it here but I met Barack Obama in person briefly on June 2nd of this year. Which in itself is no big deal a lot of people have met him, but unlike many I brought him something. It was rather spontaneous and unplanned he happened to be five minutes from my house and I was clued in by my neighbor so at the last minute I decided to go there. I had over the months put together the Wisdom Based Presidency Papers never expecting I would be able to hand deliver them.

I pointed out the quote on the front of the envelope to him

“If not for the cost burdens of fear we would all be living in paradise”.

He agreed that that was a truth.

I said “if you read these you will be president” he smiled, and he said “I will read them.”

Those of you that bother to read my comments will already have an understanding of some of the themes and strategy for the migration to a new system of things. However there is some material in there that only he and I will ever know, a secret plan. Secret only for now so that others cannot build defenses against it to thwart it’s execution.

There is one other person that got a rough draft of the papers several months before that hand delivered in person at dinner, another somewhat spontaneous meeting, and that was Congressman Dennis Kucinich who was also running for president. In fact knowing that I was going to probably meet him is what caused me to spend two days compiling and writing the material. The next day he abruptly put his campaign on hold and flew back to Washington to vote on some defense industry issues.

Democracy is about people making

The Democrats’ moment with Obama, as a brilliant campaigner confronts the challenges of governance, could prove fleeting, as was with Pres. Bush's moment in the immediate days after 911 attacks. But, for now, the results — in their breadth across a continent — suggest seismic change that goes far beyond Obama's 8 percent margin in the popular vote.

The night recalled what activist Eldridge Cleaver observed of the instant when Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus and a movement followed: “Somewhere in the universe a gear in the machinery shifted.”

The Obama revolution has begun.

I love how Deepak in his third week workshop shared within we collectively rise together. You are a miracle for listening to the collective Sun. love patty

Hey Derek,

In one context billions of years, and in another the universe is never more than a moment old.

at any rate a major shift in consciousness has been demonstrated

Aloha Patty,

Thanks, I could use a few miracles my self this drained a lot of resources.

So true and speaking of the collective rise, there is a site collaboration.me [click my name] which is a easy brief read covering Consumers, Producers, Economy, Government, Tools, Evolution, Revolution and efforts and their associated Basic New Consciousness principles.

There are still some very dense energies on the planet to be overcome and a world of fiction to dissolve, and an ego empire to be replaced with a new Kingdom born...

Heaven on Earth, a paradise restored.

As was mentioned here before, the election of Obama would pave the way to advanced technology being conveyed to and for all on the planet.

Technology that would not be trusted to a few individuals that would use it to concentrate power and control, and the persistence of an ego born empire, but would only be entrusted to a world with collective and shared control with transparency and accountability.

What is most important is the ability of the management to manage the transition from old to new, as you can see there is not much of a choice.

Everything happens perfectly… and it is all good… but not always what we desire from a finite perspective, yet always perfect and desired from an infinite perspective in relation to the evolution of consciousness and experience.

from the site…

'Going Zulu' a new member of our lexicon describes when One becomes fearless, infinite minded, breaking free of boundaries, playing with new ones, and entering the realm of infinite possibility in defiance of the status quo and Ego Empire.

A miracle! A blessing!

Not lasting unless we repeal the Twenty Second Amendment to the Constitution.

Just as I claimed in 2004, I believe that Presidential term limits are a plague to the democratic process, and without them, the spectacles that were George HW Bush, Albert Gore, and George W Bush would never have occurred.

The office of the Presidency should rest purely and continually on meritorious service and never casual inheritance as though plucked from a tree.

The electorate knows when it is time for Revolution just as President Thomas Jefferson insisted:

"We surely cannot deny to any nation that right whereon our own government is founded, that every one may govern itself according to whatever form it pleases and change these forms AT ITS OWN WILL... The will of the nation is the only thing essential to be regarded."

Hi Richard, I just read some of your advice and opinions as an advisor to Barack Obama. Very interesting....

I hope that you will take credit for all your ideas when ever it is that Obama uses them in his term of office.

I read through most of them, and thanks for sharing with us here at this discussion group.

As for Obama's being elected, I took notice of which counties in which states voted for him, as on some networks it is possible to view the outcome of each region.

I recieved many posts through the mail that were clearly opposed to Barack Obama and I would imagine that those posts were originally sent by people who can still implement their will and their might during his administration. One should be aware of every floating opinion that is sent through the internet. This particular body is quite pro Obama but I am well aware of the numbers who are opposed to him and his positions on the issues.

Myself, I had been supportive of him both for being a member of a racial minority as I have had many experiences both as a teacher with young black students, and with working in the commercial business world, long associations with blacks, so I felt that it was overdue for a qualified black to finally be electable. It was a test to see if Americans were really ready for a black man to assume such a post. Many times, especially in the state of California, underhanded means were used to make certain that blacks received appointments. That was some time ago of course but nonetheless I remember the history well.

As you are from the state of Michigan, of which I have been also years ago, graduating from Michigan State University in the 60's, I know well the push towards erasing prejudice in the state and nation .

It will take a long time before people finally learn that to emulate someone like JFK may be a good idea or a bad idea, but that is what Barack Obama had said in one of his statements, that he was trying to be like JFK. We all know what happened there. I don't like to think that that is the right path to take, but so be it, that is what Obama has said himself.

I voted for JFK myself for president in 1960. I did not like the fact that as I was teaching the play Julius Caesar to a group of tenth graders in Arizona that he was shot down on the very day that the school had all the faculty and student body have pictures made for the school yearbook. That will not happen ever again to any other school system anywhere but it is a memory I cannot forget.
I wish Obama only the best in his term of office, and hope that everyone will not have too high of expectations for him. It is a thankless job to be president.

The Twenty Second Amendment to the Constitution was crafted by mischief-makers intent on wresting from the hands of future generations, the right to mold THEIR own destiny.

On par with the prohibition in terms of its ridiculousness and dysfunction, it denied the college of electors its healthy function and purpose. And until it is repealed, we are destined to endure a ridiculous parade of oddballs as though Greatness itself were a terminal illness to be avoided while clowns are King.

Restore prudent government.

(And I'm so sorry to put down Senator Gore. But for some reason, he wasn't cut out for the presidency until the moment he lost the presidency.)

Here is my view:
"Barack Obama and the New Love Story"
http://www.openone.net/blog/index.php?itemid=89

Here's a quote from the NY Times, in turn, quoting Alexander Hamilton:

Washington's close confidant Alexander Hamilton also had firmly opposed presidential term limits. In Federalist No. 72, Hamilton argued that term limits for the chief executive would diminish inducements to good behavior, discourage presidents from undertaking bold new projects, deny the nation the advantage of his experience and threaten political stability. For his part, Washington added that term limits would exclude from the presidency a man whose leadership might be essential in a time of emergency.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

REALLY TAKE THAT IN. DOES THAT SOUND PERTINENT?

YES.

I would rather have an endless parade of oddballs than being "stuck" with say a George Bush or even a Bill Clinton, or, even, yes....a Barak Obama..

I strongly disagree with Washington and Hamilton....I like change....two terms of Office is more than enough of any one man as or President....good or bad....liked or disliked....

ruth

Ruth, most people agree with you. I'm afraid, though, we're going to wind up, like Eisenhower predicted, with people who are unwilling to take on anything like Global Warming with a coherent response that matters.

Change is different than reversal.

We're at a moment of crisis that exceeds tenfold what FDR encountered, and I don't think we'd have survived the challenge the Greatest Generation faced if we had been schizoid about it.

Hi DK!
It was indeed an historic election and now with a Black man in the White House, it has become a momentous marker in the evolution of American democratic experience. The fact that just forty years ago the US was so riven with internal racial strife that African Americans couldn’t vote puts this entire election in its proper perspective. The election of Barack Obama may or may not change the world as many of his supporters have been claiming but it will have significant implications for America’s still evolving ties with India. Unfortunately for India the early signs are not good. After eight great years, the US-India relations might just be entering another tumultuous era. The world may blame George W. Bush for all the ills afflicting the international system today but for India he represented a clean break from the past policies of previous US Administrations of all hues. Bush’s single-handed reversal of the entrenched US hostility towards India on Kashmir and non-proliferation makes him one of the most significant US Presidents as far as India is concerned.

Early indications of Obama’s priorities, on the other hand, do not bode well for the future of US-India relations. Obama took a very tough stand against outsourcing during the campaign and talked of a tax agenda that punishes those companies that “shop job overseas.” Instead, he underlined the need to give tax benefits to companies that invest in the US itself, those “who will keep jobs at home.” Though Obama has argued that America cannot “shy away” from globalization, he has suggested that strong measures are needed to protect jobs in the US. Since outsourcing is central to Indian economic growth in recent years, Obama’s policy prescription might have a seriously negative impact on India.

The other issue that will be front and centre for the Obama Administration will be the strengthening of nuclear non-proliferation regime. This is an issue that is close to the heart of the Democratic policy establishment and the “non-proliferation fundamentalists” are waiting in the wings to jump back into the fray after a long hiatus in the wilderness. Obama’s advisers have also suggested that to have a verifiable CTBT and FMCT, it is crucial to have states like India and Pakistan into the framework. A push is expected to be made at the Conference on Disarmament. The nuclear non-proliferation regime in its present form is anathema to India, given its inherently discriminatory nature and so expect some US-India wrangling on this issue.

The most troubling aspect of Obama’s policy vis-a-vis India is an emerging suggestion that the success of US endeavours in Afghanistan depends on greater American activism on Kashmir. It is the sort of muddle headed approach to South Asia that historically made the US policy towards the region such a catastrophic failure and it is once again coming back with a vengeance. Obama’s new Kashmir agenda threatens to derail the progress US and India have made in improving their relationship over the last decade. No Indian government can be expected to give in to Pakistan’s territorial ambitions so that the Pakistani Army can fight more effectively in the troubled border regions of the North West Frontier Province and Federally Administered Tribal Areas. It is the underlying fragility of the Pakistan’s basic institutions that is haunting Pakistan and with it the entire region as well as the West’s war on Islamist extremism.

So while India is also celebrating Obama’s victory as the victory of American idealism at its best, there are concerns that the future of US-India ties might not be as bright as the new dawn that America is experiencing today. India, once again, is proving itself to be an outlier.
