"Corporate Social Responsibility and Challenges for the Future for Responsible Businesses"
Though it may not very obvious to our minds eye on a day to day basis...

the world perhaps may be changing at an increasing phase along with the processes that govern the dynamics of our day to day living, out of which the way we carry on our businesses thus the economic conditions created by them perhaps are among the most important aspects.

The ways we do our businesses and structure our organizations to carry out them, the way we work too seem to be changing, though unknowingly according to and as governed by the changes in a larger context.

New businesses like Business Process Outsourcing (BPOs) which were unheard of and was even non existent a decade or so ago seem to have come to be common day business practices in the current environment and more and more people around the world seem to be opting for their own ventures and/or informal working arrangements and environments which gives them the ability and flexibility to explore their own strengths, weaknesses and creativities, than within the structures of established organizations.

With the phenomenon of Globalization occurring at an economic level and a host of other challenges like the ones brought about by climate change and associated natural events, every organization and individual is compelled to take these changes into account in planning their future strategies, in order to make them sustainable and responsible in a larger context.

Along with these changes the employer - employee relationships, the organization -customer or consumer relationship, the organizations relationship to the society at large and also the organizations relationship to the non economic environment within which it operates in, seem to be taking a more of a fore-stage in the discussions of achieving successful and sustainable businesses and development.

Thus any organization that takes the effort to be aware and recognize the need to face these challenges and make necessary strategic changes towards the same, is in the longer run, probably is well ahead of their competing counter parts.

To this extent once the issues are recognized at a macro level, the challenge perhaps is to incorporate these into the organizational structure and subsequently to its day to day business practices.

Here again the challenge thus the strategy is perhaps at least two fold. On one hand an organization is taking a more responsible stance towards the society it operates within, to which the new values has to be communicated and the customer/consumer trust and loyalty has to be won, and on the other hand these concepts, values and ways of carrying out the tasks implicated by them must be communicated within the organization to get the maximum participation and engagement of the employees. The biggest challenge perhaps is to achieve the right balance between these tasks while still maintaining 'the bottom line' of a successful business, which still to a larger extent, being the financial success.

In a context like this it is also perhaps timely to explore in depth strategies in which such non financial values/attributes of an organisation/business is taken into account in valuing and assessing organizations Brand Equity in a global economic environment.

I am from Sri Lanka and I have been an ardent fan of Dr. Chopra's work especially with regards to the mind-body healing and also topics such as collective consciousness. I come with a medical back ground. That is though I got qualified as a medical graduate from Colombo Medical School, I never engaged in practicing it but instead have been exploring other areas of work, some are quite unrelated to medicine, and am currently working for a Non-Governmental Organization that works in the Education Sector.

My first notion was that perhaps this inner felt need to change careers is because my decision to study the chosen field was to a greater extent influenced by my parents during my early school days. But thinking retrospectively now I realize that though I was never consciously articulated it, the reasons run much deeper than that. It is perhaps also due to the realization of the fact that Medicine as a scientific discipline in its explanations of pathophysiology of various disease processes and the interventions it carries out are quite incomprehensive and limited, to the degree that it frustrates to be in a position that presumes that we know it all, which in turn has lead me to take an interest of reading about topics such as mind body medicine.

Since of late I have taken somewhat of an interest of the concepts of the 'intent' and 'will' both in individual and collective terms, perhaps their role in the development of diseases and similarly their healing as well. But most intriguing notion is perhaps that everything that is there in the universe is an expression of energy in one form of the other. In Dr Chopras word "expression of the pure potentiality"

I thought of expressing these seemingly absurd ideas here on Intentblog as it is quite a task to find the proper forum for them elsewhere and the discussion here seem quite inspiring and stimulating.

“The biggest challenge perhaps is to achieve the right balance between these tasks while still maintaining 'the bottom line' of a successful business, which still to a larger extent, being the financial success.”

Hello Ruchira,

No, these aren't such absurd ideas at all :)

It is only here in the West, where we have been practising our left brain hemisphere much more than our right one that these ideas still seem absurd.

We all stand at a U-turn in the labyrinth and will, in an evolutionary way, (which is in the Scheme of Things to happen) change our way of thinking: we are going to be able to use our full brain potential: left and right hemisphere.

That means that we will tackle problems by looking at them from both sides and then become able to transcend them into a universal solution.

Lol, these are too cryptic words, I know, but this has been my evolutionary experience during the past 30 years and I have found back a lot in this respect during the past 3 years of blogging here on Intentblog.

I am not so good in wording all this, the most recent books I am interested in are:

"The new Asian Hemisphere" written by Kishore Mahbubani and

“The World is Flat, Hot and Crowded” written by Thomas Friedman

They both offer solutions to the challenges our world is facing at the moment.

I wish you lots of success in your (re)search. My son is about your age I guess, looking at your picture. You both live in exciting times with lots of new challenges to put your teeth in.

I envy you :)

All the best,

Mieke

Hello Meike,

It indeed is a pleasure to have your comments and words of encouragement, I can understand your envy. :D though I may not as old as you everytime I am encountered by those bright sparks of the younger generation who are full of strength, courage and ambition I too feel the same way, thinking the things they would be putting their teeth on :D

Why I called them absurd is the the ever so lethargic media of ours don't seem this kind of things are worth their attention.

I must say on contrary to your belief you are pretty good at wording things yourslef. Like 'the scheme of things to happen', well I guess that would be the case, once a certain critical mass is achieved I guess the scheme of things would just start to happen whether who likes it or not. Because whatever we humans say and do life one day will definitely find it's own way. But being aware of it I guess gives us the advantage of being prepared and making it happen wihtout too much of a hassle so to speak :)

Anyway I have not had the opportunity to read the two books but I am aware of the Friedman's book and I have read his first book - 'Lexus and the Olive Tree' which I thought was pretty interesting except I didn't quite agree the way Mr. Friedman has concluded it. But that perhaps is a topic for another post.

And speaking of books another one on my must read list is.. "Biology of Belief By Dr. Bruce Lipton.."
Yeah the times are exciting and wish your son a bright future as well.

Now excuse me I must go and brush my TEETH - gotta keep them strong yeah?

:D :D

Hello Ruch,

'The Scheme of Things' is something I have picked up here from someone I have come to know very well during my time spent here at IB: Harbhajan Singh, whom's book 'Self Designed Universe' I have translated into the Dutch language.

When translating it I was going through a phase in my life that was exactly described in his book and I had already experienced some of it by my own discovery of the labyrinth.

So i did not have so much a 'collision of civilizations' as well as recognizing that we both had experienced same things in life and went through same things at a certain age.

I guess that book you mention 'Biology of belief' contains a lot of the same wisdom.

Deepak Chopra has laid a profound foundation already with his books, both in Europe and in America too. I have read many of his books.

Hopefully he will be more and more recognized in the Asian hemisphere too.

Yeah, keep your teeth in good condition!

Helllo Meike,

Yeah lots of books present the same wisdom in slightly different formats and perceptions in different cultural orientations.... and I guess you may be quite right when you say you were exactly going through experiences in your personal life which was described in the book you are transaltaing. That's how it usually happens we tend to hit the books and seek answers to questions that arise within us that our parents, teachers, friends, colleagues, seniors, guides and mentors don't have answers for. The pitfall here is there are those who claim that they have - in all sorts of glorious forms.

Anyway speaking of Dr. Chopra I have read few of his books and listened to his speeaches on tape and seen him speaking on Larry King Live and is greatly inspired by him. Nice to see he has build a great foundation over there in the Europe and in America. And don't you think it's an irony that his foundation and work is yet to be well established in Asia, considering the fact that the wisdom and the messages he spread truly are from the East to begin with. But it's the western social-political and economic systems that has enabled him to to establish himself the way he has, which indeed is a good thing about the West. Perhaps translation of Dr. Chopra's books in to some Asian languages will make the knowledge accessible to the Asian masses as well...

Best
Ruchira ~

I appreciate your comments and even more so that you followed your 'heart.' The current systems of 'head-based' government, leadership & education are broken and in need of transformation- to what you have intuited correctly and what I refer to as the 'BEAUTY WAY' model of heart-based leadership.

The need for the 'know it already' medical practices (mostly in the west) that are actually quite archaic, to be replaced is evident as the world becomes more and more ill.

I hope that you find the study of energy and it's implications on the body (which is clearly being revealed through 'the field of all possibilities' to those who have "eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts that understand,") a much more fulfilling avenue for your advanced intuition/thinking.

I wish you the 'BEAUTY WAY' success!

Lily Finch
