One thing I have realized is how much the environment can influence us. The weather is an obvious way, but there are many smaller aspects of environment that impact us as well.
I am in the process of moving to Seattle from Northern California. I have been wanting to leave the Bay Area for a number of years, and really love Seattle. It is interesting, though, that I almost feel like a different person depending on where I am located.
Seattle has a much slower pace of life than the Bay Area, and I literally feel calmer and more settled when I am there. I lived in Seattle before, rented a cute little house while going to school, and got into cooking, etc. I even started baking bread!
I eventually moved to New York City where even the idea of cooking seemed odd. I would eat out regularly and the idea of baking bread literally seemed like something from Little House on the Prairie.
I have moved almost every year for the last 15 years of my life, so I am quite familiar with living in different places. I am becoming more and more aware, however, of how I change in different environments. My interests, my desires, my intentions, are all influenced by the world in which I find myself.
This makes perfect sense when considering that the environment is actually part of us. In fact, if there is no real, distinct boundary between myself and my environment, it makes sense that I change whenever I find myself in a different location.
I have begun to see myself not so much as a distinct person, but as this fluid matrix that shifts and changes based on the environment, relationships, etc.
Which leads me to the question - who am I? Is there anything distinct to me at all? Or am I simply an ever-changing mix of all the influences I have ever experienced?
What do you think? I would love to hear your thoughts!
Peace, Love, Beauty,
Sarah Maria

You can just be your environment or much more. Depends on you.
Realization of self takes need for introspection and looking beyond the projections of environment on one's mind.
You find out out yourself. Books and other's experiences may help you initiate.

We are the reflection of our environment not on
We are the reflection of our environment not only physical but the people around us. Everyone has a distinct personality but if we yield to the influence of the ambience we loses our individuality and gradually we behave as per the influence. For your interest you may read the small book titled 'Who am I?' by Ramana Maharishi to have a clear understanding of the Self. After which you may read the books of the great Osho and JK which puts light on the subjets you explained in your question.
