Dear Friends, we were asked the other day about why the delusion of wealth persists?
For example, ordinary investors watch a Madoff "Ponzi scheme" hedge fund collapse taking USD 50bn into a black hole and many stock market quoted companies lose 99% of their market capitalisation, ie, go from USD 25 bn to less than 500 mn. Yet, ordinary investors feel somehow that they will come good in all of their stock market bets and they diligently commit more funds to speculation on the markets just as -- the pied piper of Omaha -- Warren Buffett utters, "When others are greedy be fearful, and when others are fearful be greedy!"
This reminds one of the teachings of The Great Spiritual Masters "On the Impermanence of Life and Wealth" by way of a revealing anecdote from The Mahabharata.
The Socratic (truth seeking) dialogue between His Majesty King Yudhishtra and the Celestial Spirit "Yaksha" in the Mahabharata (circa 3,100 BC), one of the greatest Indian epics in Sanskrit, follows in short.
The Yaksha -- Celestial Spirit, Guardian of Treasure -- asked King Yudhishtra -- The Wise, Just and Truthful Warrior -- a riddle:
"What is the most astonishing thing in the world?"
Completely intrepid -- although aware of the wrath of the Yaksha should his answer be wrong -- King Yudhishtra replied:
"The strangest thing in the world is that people see others die daily, they even take their relatives to the cemetry, but everyone of them suffers from the delusion that they themselves are going to live for ever! Death is meant only for others!! Yet, the only certainty in life is death! Why do we all suffer from this delusion of our permanence? This is the most astonishing thing in the world."
If there can be a lifelong "grand" delusion about such a grave matter -- pun intended! -- the "petit" delusion in regard to the illusion of wealth is neither here nor there!
Background
According to Indian mythology, the Yakshas are celestial beings -- generally benevolent although prone to fiery temper and total destruction -- bestowed with magical powers, who are the guardians of treasures of the earth and in the cosmos. Kuber is the king of the Yakshas. They make occasional visits to the earth, and jealously guard their privacy and prefer to avoid contact with the mortal beings. Humans, who run into the Yakshas by chance, do so at their own peril, for the Yakshas can be temperamental. These chance encounters may lead to something fortunate, or something unpleasant if not altogether terrible, for the humans often depending upon the latter's ability to provide satisfactory responses to the riddles posed by the Yaksha. Correct responses to the riddles usually involve a logic or wisdom that is typically beyond the reach of most mortal human beings. The phrase "Yaksha-Prashn" literally means questions or riddles posed by a Yaksha, and in the Indian literature, refer to exasperating or insurmountable challenges.

That should be "absorbed energy" above. Spell checkers are sometimes wrong they don't always understand context very well and pick the wrong correction, still must check the spell checker. There must be a wisdom hidden there pertinent to the current state of affairs.
It's never heard of a Galactic Black Swan for example; and I doubt the it knows of the Galactic Butterfly.
funny how it manages to prompts one to write
off to shovel snow... it's the same before and after enlightenment..
Also notice that no force is needed to be used on any single ant, it does what it does because it wants to, it’s free to wander a little if it wants to, yet it cooperates because it is aware, that cooperation is integral part of it’s own survival. There are also no written rules or laws because knowing that one truth is all that is required.
Odd coincidence look at the graphic on

I think it is just as astonishing when someone survives against all odds.
It could be the only certainty in death is Life.
Maybe the Yakshas are those parts of ourselves that, when denied, set us on the limiting material path to 'death.' After all, it was so-called mortals who summoned up such myths, and all the ingredients are there, as paradoxical as it may seem.
I think we must consider our possible multi-dimensionality and how that might work out to a flat-mortalist!!
I begin to feel a Yaksha coming on :)
Hey Ed you know you posted that and mentioned "Yaksha" I had no idea what one was, so your posting caused me to go look it up. So then I got to reading about Yama, and you know he doesn’t sound like that bad of a guy.
"Yama is also the god of justice and is sometimes referred to as Dharma, in reference to his unswerving dedication to maintaining order and adherence to harmony. It is said that he is also one of the wisest of the devas. In the Katha Upanishad, among the most famous Upanishads, Yama is portrayed as a teacher."
In fact he sounds like my own character type, but I don't have red or green skin. :)
But you know I saw that Broadway Musical on tour last week "Wicked" and she (that became known as the wicked witch of the West), had green skin, wonder if there is a connection.
I don't like musicals normally, and was taken there against what I thought was my will, I decided not to stop resisting and go with the flow. Well the cast was very talented and a pleasure to watch perform, and the set amazing, I am very fascinated by those gifted in the art of creating illusion and story telling. It, not surprisingly, seemed to convey some of the insight and wisdom written here and elsewhere in the past. Well worth going to see for the insight.
But any way it gets more interesting, I followed one of the paths to Markandeya then to a tale from the Bhagavata Purana states that when the earth was about to be engulfed by water, Markandeya prayed to Vishnu to rescue him. Vishnu appeared in the form of a child floating on a leaf, and declared to the sage that he was Time and Death. He requested the sage to enter into his mouth and save himself from the surging water. The sage entered inside the mouth of Vishnu, and saw inside Vishnu the entire cosmos, all the gods and deities. The sage came out after some time, Vishnu was still floating seated on the leaf.
That certainly fits with the Great Deluge I was speaking of above from a scientific perspective.
Sure it’s all just a bunch of story telling, and myth but you have to admit sometimes those stories can match reality in an odd sort of way. It’s funny because I was tossing this thing back and forth in my mind the last couple hours. After reading the part about Vishnu’s mouth I realized that the geographical location I was thinking of for a sustainable city and spiritual retreat, which works well if there is no Deluge, could be represented symbolically as Vishnu’s mouth.
Of course the Great Deluge isn’t something we would announce on public television, why create panic for something that is not even certain and even if it was what could we do with all the ego impediments standing in the way?
But for those that would hear and have their attention in the right place because of the nature of their consciousness who might also endeavor to make this happen and participate as a sort of contingency plan, just in case there is a Galactic Black Swan in the form of a huge high energy particle beam or blast, a gravity wave, or a huge amount of cosmic dust, one that was cyclic.
Above, that should have been "I decided to stop resisting and go with the flow" one thing I know is if I actually show up somewhere I was supposed to be there.
Looks like it's time to stop writing here.
I did realize after the fact that was the label DK used above, sometimes I only retain concepts I guess it happened for a reason since I went and explored further.
The realization for today is that love diminishes the ego, or perhaps connects it so it doesn't act as if it is separate.
Keep Nothing
The idealist, and the materialist, the saved and the damned, all end on the same dusty heap. It makes to difference who you were, or what you did, or by what road you arrived at nothingness. Nothingness doesn't discriminate. We can ignore it, but no one escapes. No matter what you think, or what you believe you will forget. Forgetting is your future. You'll forget the whole universe and yourself. Only nothingness remains.
Just as you can not prove your Nothingness, I can not prove my Universal-One-ness.
So you believe and go to where you belong, and I believe and will go to where I belong.
"To the as-yet-unborn, to all innocent wisps of undifferentiated nothingness: Watch out for life. I have caught life. I have come down with life. I was a wisp of undifferentiated nothingness, and then a little peephole opened quite suddenly. Light and sound poured in. Voices began to describe me and my surroundings. Nothing they said could be appealed. They said I was a boy named Rudolph Waltz, and that was that. They said the year was 1932, and that was that. They said I was in Midland City, Ohio, and that was that.
They never shut up. Year after year they piled detail upon detail. They do it still. You know what they say now? They say the year is 1982, and that I am fifty years old. Blah blah blah..."
--Kurt Vonnegut, in "Deadeye Dick"
Delusion of permanence: yes, nothing is permanent but in making something from nothing lies the power of creation.
Herewith a Christmas and New Year's wish to all that just happened and turned from nothing into something and after the snow was gone the fir branches still were there becoming one with nature again :)

Perhaps they have not been exposed to the awareness. Perhaps they have not been bitten by the impetus.
The issue of the markets and the financial system will dwarfed by what is coming.
The flooding is pretty much for sure in 2010 and 2011.
The Great Deluge is possible, 2012 or 2013 it has happened before, it is not certain. Imagine a rare combination of events, one galactic black swan it depends upon. This is where most the earth’s clouds cover precipitates. While this only amounts to 1 inch over the entire surface, which isn’t much, however it does not fall all spread out evenly over the course of 7 – 40 days. Then it is a pretty blue sky, some areas get enormous amounts of water and some may get none. But not for long, during blue sky period an enormous volume of energy enters the earth, very rapid melting occurs, sea levels rising, freshwater induced current changes, exponentiation of energy absorbed, exponentiation of evaporation, huge cooling cloud cover, reduced energy absorption from the external, however all the previously aborted energy is still in the system making it very turbulent a hydrological cycle that becomes a tempest till it balances. Might we go into an ice age? I forgot to mention the triggering of pending earthquakes as a result of the weight of the rainfall, a mess to be sure.
Lucky for us the solution to global warming or ice age is the same and there is nothing to fear if we prepare for the game.
We must have the adaptable and mobile systems in place within 1 – 2 years. This means everyone has a job and plenty of economy to go around. The idea of property ownership may need to change as well as fixed housing. That is all the time that is left, or the majority can continue in their delusion but soon reality will come knocking, and when you open the door stands the Grim Reaper or as some know him Yama.
But perhaps we can outfox him, now is our chance.
We must become like the Ants who are no stranger to a deluge which for them is a common occurrence to which they adapt through collective effort and ingenuity.
We might also note the Ants in the Salvadore Dali paintings. The only assets they have and need are themselves.
Something to talk about at your Holiday Gatherings.
Become like the ants.
