BENJAMIN FRANKLIN:
There never was a good war or a bad peace.
GEORGE WASHINGTON:
There is nothing so likely to produce peace as to be well prepared to meet the enemy.
HELEN KELLER:
I do not want the peace that passeth understanding. I want the understanding which bringeth peace.
INDIRA GANDHI:
You can't shake hands with a clenched fist.
JOHN F. KENNEDY:
Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.:
One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but that it is a means by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means.
RALPH WALDO EMERSON:
The real and lasting victories are those of peace, and not of war.
As we close out the old and welcome in the new, we must hope for, and strive to achieve, peace, not only for our selves but for all mankind, so that our children and grandchildren will never know the horrors of war. Nations everywhere must endeavor to eliminate war as an option, protect the sanctity of human life and earnestly attempt to exhaust peaceful means to resolve conflicts. Ron Saywack.
Happy New Year, all!
Maybe in 2009 we should all try a little harder to live in the natural world. The one that really exists. Maybe we can all peruse supernaturalism (a belief in forces beyond ordinary human understanding) with a little less vigour. This may make us more familiar with truth and reason, which in turn will diminish hate and conflict all over the world.
It may even get us peace one of these days.
Happy New Year to everybody,
Skep.

One-in-All wishes All-in-One a happy, healthy and cheerful New Year 2009 with Its playfulness at its best LOL.
Mieke, you too are included here lol, the open thread being too down in the depths to be easily scrolled by my still virus-slowed computer!

Happy New Year to All!
2009:
- Year of the Gorilla
- European Year of Creativity and Innovation
- Year of Astronomy
- Year of Tradition
- Year of Charles Darwin
- International Year of the spreading of Human Rights
Harb,
Am writing all this on an old laptop, which I have been able to turn into a simple Internet computer. She is not fast but stable :).
Keeping the other laptop safely away from the Internet from now on. I was able to put the most important program, my Virtual Reality 3D Game Studio, back on it and will now only use it for building 3D worlds.
Perhaps in future I will buy a separate fast Internet computer, which are already available. For now am quite content with the above solution.
Wishing you all much creativity and good health in 2009.
Mieke
PS, Harb,
If you still are suffering from the virus and your vital files are also on the computer of your son, perhaps it is best to format your laptop again. Do you have a backup of your original operating system? Most of the time computers are sold with the factory settings on a separate partition. If you are able to make a copy of that partition on a self starting cd or dvd, you can retrieve your old settings and start from scratch again.
