Economic Crisis as a Catalyst for Spiritual and Community Renewal

People take notice when “officialdom” makes pronouncements like this one from Bank of England Deputy Governor Charles Bean regarding the economic situation--- “This is a once in a lifetime crisis, and possibly the largest financial crisis of its kind in human history."

What an amazing time to be living---a time of great extremes—we are living on the edge. While the economic crisis may be the worst in human history, it could be paradoxically the greatest impetus to spiritual renewal and awakening of humanity to finally build a society that works for all—starting in each of our communities.

Beyond Hate in '08--Community Weaver's Story

Hate. An awful word. According to the dictionary it is "to dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward."

It is easy to see in others, but can we overcome it in ourselves? I must have received 5 emails this last week demonizing the Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

Overcoming What Ails Us!

Every four years in the U.S. we see the same misguided and blind hope---that somehow some politician is going to make things right for us and fix the brokenness of our lives and the world, e.g. war, global warming, economy, poverty, etc. And then we end up disillusioned because it doesn't happen. Why? Because human beings get the government and society we deserve. Our government and society are a reflection of how we actually are within ourselves and how we live---a reflection of our individual and collective consciousness.

The Gem

MARCH 9, 1985

A gem of finest quality was waiting, one day, waiting to be seen. Cleansing water and natural forces helped it along its way to the surface. Sitting beneath dirt and rock it almost made it to the light. It almost touched the point where the human eye, a window of the Spirit could cast its gaze at its beautiful order and harmony, and wonder, why?

Suffering is Never Alone But Shared

Suffering is never alone but shared.

I feel and see the flow of life and death inside and outside of me. Sometimes I resist in despair, saying why should this be, all the senseless misery? Tears are unleashed. Torrents of liquid stream from me, dripping onto the sunlit ground.

World Peace Begins With Your Neighbor

Why does it take a disaster to bring us together? Recent tragedies like 911, Hurricane Katrina, and the Tsunami remind us of who we are deep inside--- a spiritually connected part of a large extended family, a web of living beings, sharing a tiny biosphere, on a small planet.
